As well as our twinned partnership with Kuldiga Baptist Church (see Latvian Link) we also have friends, contacts and former members all around the world.

Catherine Wray a former member is now living in Brazil teaching English. She visits us when ever she returns to the UK and we are happy to announce that she married Bruno Pereira Pinto in Brazil just outside Sao Paulo on May 5th 2007. Catherine and Bruno returned to the UK for a Service of Blessing on 7th July 2007 at Hunslet Baptist Church. Read Catherine & Bruno's March 2008 Newsletter

Visitor from Philadephia, USA

Betty and Wilf Higginbottom were pleased to welcome Uche Onuoha a daughter of past members Kris and Ify to stay for a few days. Kris & Ify now live with their family in Philadelphia.  Uche was visiting London as part of a short course for her medical training, and wanted to visit her birthplace. She will now have graduated as a Doctor in the US. Uche is Kris and Ify's 3rd daughter of 7, they also have 1 son. It was wonderful to see Uche again who was only a toddler when her parents left Leeds to return to Nigeria before moving once again to America where they are all now settled.

George teaches New Testament at Carey and in the Tyndale-Carey Graduate School.  Following pastoral ministry in the UK and cross cultural mission in Brazil he is deeply interested in applying the NT to contemporary Christian life and mission.  His book, The Significance of Salvation: A Study of Salvation Language in the Letters to Timothy and Titus has just been published by Paternoster.  He is married to Jo, who is pastor of Mangere Baptist Church, and their children are Lindsey (recently married to Rich) and teens Jonathan and Joanne. George is also the author of our own publication " The Baptists in Hunslet in the late nineteenth century" priced £3.50

Margaret Swires

Margaret Swires is our BMS (Baptist Missionary Society) link Missionary and has recently moved to Peru to begin new work for the BMS.  This has also meant her having to learn a new language! Hunslet supports Margaret prayerfully and financially.

Margaret is working with the Peruvian Baptist Convention in the area of holistic ministry, initially in the capital city Lima. She relocated to Peru in November 2005 following 20 years with BMS in Brazil.

"We are seeking out what other organisations are doing in this area in order to see how we can work in our churches, alerting to the problems, prevention and help. As ever the key is how to present the programmes. I have been to many very proficient conferences and training sessions on an incredibly wide variety of subjects, but am concerned at the amazingly low level of actual action after words. The Lord has promised that the dry times are nearly over and the blessings are coming, so keep praying with me."
